This is where my current work in progress will be. Check back to see updates.
This is my concept drawing for my next Sculpture. The arch will be built out of aluminum. Its size will be 72 in by 72 in by 36 in approximately. I will use House of Kolor Candy Paint. Outside the arch will use black pearl and inside will use Kandy Brandywine with fish scales. Use of 1959 Chevrolet taillights. Louvers on sides will be airbrushed on and chrome trim will be silver leaf. A lot of clear will be applied.
These tail lights will be frenched into back of each arch.
More to Come!!
The skeleton is almost complete. The fins will be make next. There approximate location is shown. If all goes well the thin aluminum skin will be glued on next!

(More In process photos to come)
This sculpture I just finished. You can see the finished piece under my sculpture page. It all started with this drawing.
The 1st thing I did was to make a paper mock up for the legs. My initial idea was to use a gazing ball but after finding a large hanging globe light I went with that. I think I made the right choice!
This is slow process. Bending 14 gauge steel every 2 inches to form the sides of each leg.
All the legs are bent. Now welding and grinding welds is next.
Legs are now in metal. Now the fun begins. Center tube needs to be shortened and metal grill work begins. The wiring of this sculpture will be a challenge.
Legs on Jig with the center tube. The challenge here is how to hold tube and legs together?
With the use of 2 center rings the legs are attached and solid. Now the grill work begins.
The drilling of over 50 steel balls of various sizes begins. These balls will be welded to 5 steel rings then attached to the upper portion of the sculpture.
The upper rings with balls of various sizes are welded in place. The rings will be welded to each other at various levels. Then attached to a center ring. The whole assembly then is chrome-plated.
The upper rings are now polished and in a jig for alignment and final welding of placement bars (3) and center holding ring.
Three bars welded in place and jig removed. The three lower grilles are now being built. When done they and the upper ring will be plated (Chrome or Copper) not sure yet. What do you think?
Rings and Grills in place. Red Gazing Ball will be lower in rings. All balls now to be Chrome Plated.
Upper Rings with Balls and Lower grills in place. All 59 Caddy lights in place Gazing Ball at Top. Chrome plating next!
Upper Rings with Balls and Lower grills Plated. All 59 Caddy lights in place Gazing Ball at Top. Now wiring begins!
All wiring done. Holy Balls is all flashy and Blinky! Now the grinding and Kandy Paint is next
Colors chosen are House of Kolor Kandy Apple Red and Kandy Tangerine.
